Probably the most valuable bit of wisdom a new boat owner should learn is: Don't yell at your wife. Put in proper form, this basic rule reads: You are the captain of your ship. It is incumbent upon you to never lose your cool and to avoid hysteria at all costs, as your control of your vessel and crew, especially in quickly developing situations, will be all but lost. A captain yelling does not paint a pretty picture. The crew is confused and miserable. And worse, in that state, clear-headedness takes flight, exacerbating the potential for small problems to grow exponentially. A yelling, hysterical, foul-tempered captain should be shunned by family and friends.
