There are more than 330,000 documented vessels registered with the Coast Guard nationwide, and more than half of them share a name with some other boat–in some cases, many other boats.
Serenity, for example, is the most popular name on the list, belonging to roughly 381 vessels, according to Coast Guard records current through July 7 of this year. Freedom is second with 302 and Destiny is third with 298. Even names that sound original are sometimes widely used. Why Knot graces the transom of 102 boats and Hakuna Matata belongs to 133.
To help you avoid sharing a name with too many others, here are the top 100 on the Coast Guard list, along with the number of boats accociated with those names. Steer clear of these and you at least have a chance at something unique.
