ALL YANMAR MARINE DIESELS CAN NOW USE B5 DIESEL

Yanmar Marine USA today announced that it has certified all of its recreational marine diesels to use B5 diesel fuel -- a blend of 95 percent standard diesel and 5 percent biodiesel.

SALES FIGURES DOWN, FUEL PRICES UP

The total value of all boats and marine services sold last year was $37.5 billion, down five percent from 2006, according to statistics released today by the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA). Powerboat sales were down eight percent last year, and sailboat sales figures have not yet been released.

The numbers paint a picture of an industry suffering from the one-two punch of decreasing sales and increasing fuel prices, the latter of which are setting records as the Memorial Day weekend kicks off.

Trouble at West Marine

On Tuesday , the NASDAQ stock exchange warned West Marine that its common stock could be de-listed because the company is late filing its mandatory year-end financial report for 2007. In a statement, West Marine acknowledged the tardiness and said it would attempt to file the report before the end of this week, but said also that if it missed that deadline, it would brief NASDAQ on its plan for getting the report filed.

 

A Trawler Summer in the Pacific Northwest
