Virtual Tours

I’ve spent the better part of an hour playing with a great new feature on Camper & Nicholsons’ Web site: virtual-reality tours. Now you no longer have to settle for just a handful of photos and a downloadable PDF fact sheet when you click on a charter yacht to learn more about her. You can in effect walk around her decks, everywhere from her swim platform to her sundeck and everywhere in between.

Tanks a Lot

Happy Birthday, Olin

The year was 1929. A then-21-year-old yacht designer partnered with a yacht broker to start a firm specializing in naval architecture, yacht brokerage, charter, and insurance. Little did Olin J. Stephens II know that the firm he formed with Drake Sparkman, called Sparkman & Stephens, would go on to help create more than 2,700 commercial craft, military vessels, and pleasureboats, several America’s Cup defenders, and some of the most famous motoryachts and megayachts on the planet.

Superyacht Cup Update

Good news and bad news from the organizers of The Superyacht Cup:

Bad news first. The Superyacht Cup Transatlantic Challenge, an inaugural event slated for next month, has been cancelled. Dial-Up Dilemma

Sorry for the Internet inactivity today--I've spent much of the past few hours trying to get online, mostly via a terrible dial-up connection. I'm traveling this week and subject to whatever I can get.

Because of these problems, Megayacht News will be on a short hiatus until tomorrow afternoon or Wednesday morning. I'll have plenty to tell you about when I return.

One such item: a new collaboration with MadMariner.com. Stay tuned.

Captains' Call

You Oughtta Be in Pictures

By now many of you have probably seen the Kate Hudson-Matthew McConaughey flick Fool’s Gold. Even if you haven’t, if you’ve seen the commercials, you’ll recall several scenes take place aboard a megayacht.

Carbon (Footprint) Cruise

If you live in the UK, no doubt you’ve seen your share of headlines about the Caribbean cruise Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, a.k.a.

Dockwise Debuts in Dubai

February 19 was a big day for Dockwise Yacht Transport (DYT), for that’s when it made its first yacht delivery to Dubai.

Free at Last

The two-and-a-half-year saga of the sailing yacht Legacy just got a whole lot more positive.
