Since our last exciting posting, I've moved from the cabin roof to the forward deck and hatch.
Cutting the boards to fit the hull curve wound up going fairly well. I rough cut them to shape, laid them in position and then drew a line offset X inches from the hull side on the board. Keeping my pencil at that mark on the ruler as you run it down the inside of the hull. This leaves a line on the deck that matches the right curve. Cut along that and it all fit.
Added a bit of framing underneath and then left it setting. Cleaned out in the bilge area, some more sanding and added a quick dash of paint down there for some final sealing and to improve the appearance. While I did that, Dane painted the underside of the deck while we could still easily get to it.
Stowaway
After installation, and deciding to go ahead and seal it in place, we worked on the hatch. I hope putting the deck in isn't a decision I regret down the way. There will be some installations under it that still have to be done, but Dane fits down there quite nicely (and I can get in to some extent), so I think we'll be ok.
Forward Deck Hatch Framing
As a followup to the cabin roof, it looks like some of my wood didn't do well there. It got wet right after installation and seems to be warping and trying to delaminate. That will have to get reworked at some point, but for now, it does fine as a weather cover.
