GLEN JUSTICE
GLEN JUSTICELights come in AC and DC versions and start at $159.
Transom lights are cool, but some of us see one enduring problem: You have to drill a hole – a large hole – in your hull. But now there is an alternative.
FishNlight.com, run by Amy and Emie Oronoz (pictured above), sells a portable, waterproof light that can be dropped over the side.
The 100-watt model comes in an AC version for $179 and a DC version for $159. A larger, 175-watt light called the Sword Magnet (as in swordfish) is AC powered and sells for $459.
Users can replace the bulbs themselves using off-the-shelf models available in most hardware stores, with the exception of the bulb for the DC-powered model, which can be purchased online.
The smaller lights come with 25 feet of cable and the larger with 50 feet, though custom lengths are available.
Though we haven't tested these lights, the idea is a good one. These lights can be used on a boat – power or sail – and perhaps even on a tender, in the case of the DC model. Illumination that is designed for use aboard a boat, can be moved around and does not require a drill – what's not to like?
