Mega-yachts on Mega-Display

The Fort Lauderdale Show is known for its mega-yachts and this year's collection was no less than breathtaking with the mega-yacht dock itself extending beyond line-of-sight along the Bahia Mar Yachting Center, a distance of about one mile. That's a lot of steel and aluminum and fiberglass luxury. The mega-yacht display was led by the yacht Kismet, which was docked across the waterway from the Hyatt Pier 66 Marina. There simply was no place else big enough to put her.

Another striking megayacht was the 164-foot Westport Avviva, which has its own helicopter tied down on the upper deck, and an enormous stern "garage" open for viewing. Frankly, I've lived in apartments smaller than the garage where Avviva's tender is stored.

Typical of the mega-yachts intended for both private and charter work, it has a limited number of guest cabins, in this case six, along with accommodations for six crew.
