Among the highlights of the indoor displays this year was Furuno's demonstrations of its latest NavNet networked marine electronics systems, called NavNet 3D. Live demonstrations inside one of the tents drew big crowds to see how new microprocessors and software were able to translate depth and altitude information from charts and sensors into three-dimensional pictures, both of the sea floor and shoreline. This enables a captain to ascertain his position with reference to key landmarks above and below the water. Even radar returns off shore can be shown in 3D, revealing hills and prominent terrain features.
