If you’re a fan of the work of Espen Øino, then you can wear it, literally.

Scalfaro, the Switzerland-based maker of fine watches, is introducing the watch you see above, created with the famed naval architect, at the Monaco Yacht Show this month.

The Scalfaro for Espen Øino Edition resulted from a chance meeting the principals of Scalfaro, Alexander and Dominik Kuhnle, had with the designer (below) at a previous Monaco Yacht Show. In discussing design philosophy, they came to realize watchmaking and yacht design shared similarities, such as an emphasis on dynamic lines, the importance of aesthetics, and of course adhering to technical specifications and physical proportions.

The watch even has some yacht-inspired features. The solid, 44mm-diameter case mimics a porthole, for example, and the red ceramic cylinder at 9 o’clock and the green ceramic cylinder at 3 o’clock represent port and starboard running lights, respectively. The screws with which Scalfaro holds the various components together are shaped like winches. Even the place where the rubber watchstrap attaches to the case is intended to mimic the stern of a superyacht.

For practicality and durability, the watch has a scratch-resistant crystal face, hour and minute hands filled with Luminova, a material that glows at night, and overall assembly to prevent water intrusion. The watch is also water-resistant to 50 meters (164 feet).

Limited to 100 pieces, the Scalfaro for Espen Øino Edition costs 6,950 euros (about $9,971). It will be sold only through Scalfaro retailers worldwide.
