Before jumping into my build, I read about other builds... a lot. It
always seemed like progress was slow, which was often hard to understand.
Now that I'm doing it, I understand a lot more.
Obviously, for most of us, building a boat falls in the "hobby" category.
We cannot dedicate full time to the endeavor. I still have work
commitments, family commitments, etc. When all that is said and done, you
fit the boat in where you can (if you're not too tired).
Then there is money. One of the huge advantages in my mind to building
your own boat is that it can be "pay as you go." When I get done, I expect
to have very little if any debt. I can buy materials when the money is
available. When money is in shorter supply, it just has to wait. Sometimes
this conspires with your available time and weather to create "missed
opportunities." Good, free weekends with great weather when you don't get
much done for lack of some critical supply.
Anyway, I'm really hoping to have another good burst of building coming up
now. I just ordered the remaining MDO (plywood) to finish the hull skin
(sides and bottom). It should arrive today. I have epoxy in-hand. Daylight
Saving Time allows me to get home while it is still daylight. I normally
don't care for the time change mess, but in this instance, it does help me
out.
All that to say, I look forward to getting some stuff done this weekend.
Of course now they say it may rain...
